12 April 2003

This is another Naval Reserve drill weekend. Over 50% of our small medical/dental unit has been activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq. However, our mission has not decreased by 50%. We are still responsible for processing 50 plus physicals each month. Ultimately, it is a good thing. Junior Sailors are getting valuable, accelerated training and are functioning beyond their levels. Each member has expanded collateral duties. Thereis a palpable spirit of enthusiasm and an electrified energy. I can see that I will be mighty busy preparing Naval Achievement Award citations for the most deserving.

The college trimester is winding down with only one more final examination in Legal Aspects of Healthcare and two case study analyses in Human Resources Management. I can do it.....I hope.

After my final examination in HRM last Thursday and firm plans to relax at home, I was surprised by a phone call from Bryan. We decided to go to the movies and ended up seeing "Chicago". It was such a treat. The drawback was the theater.....I had no idea that my favorite movie venue had a teeny tiny screening room - only 92 seats. I felt as though we were part of the musical. We were that close to the screen even in the next to the last row. Apparently, after a movie has had an extended run, it is moved to one of the smaller spots. That is the last time I will go to that particular theater without first checking. I hope everyone will get the opportunity to savor this screen gem - it was a delight.

It was good to see Bryan - and I mean that literally. His appearance was stellar. From his outfit to his grooming, I could find no fault. I was so proud of him. Apparently, he decided that a better paying position justified the sacrifice of his long tresses. This was not a decision that he made either easily or without much forethought. We had an excellent time - laughed a lot. I'm looking forward to more outings with him.

More later...........

02 April 2003

Much has happened. But first, guess who is going to Japan!!? My girl was selected. Yesterday, I took Noel to the Post Office so that her passport application could be processed.

I have, in the professor's words, "a solid B" in my Human Resources Management class. I'll take it. The final examination is on April 10th. Next trimester's class is Principles of Microeconomics; I'm not too enthused about this. I bought my textbook on line and it comes with a tutorial on a CD. Maybe that will help. Descriptions of the book highlight simple algebra equations. To me that is an oximoron/oxymoron. Where is spell

I spent 17 days at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda MD. Once again the push is on for me to return for a year on ADSW orders (Additional Duty for Special Work). I'm still waiting for orders.

I attended a Park-West art auction on the 7th of March and took two guests. I had no intention of bidding on anything - I have no more wall space - and did okay until my friend, Fran, asked me if I would like a glass of wine. The merlot was lovely. Before I knew it, I was waving the bid card above my head! I am happy with my win - a limited (196/300), signed in pencil, Tarkay/Tarkai. May not be spelled exactly right. Anyway, I told my friend's husband - he who had purchased the above-mentioned merlot, that the glass of wine cost me $250.00! I used my Park West card and that saved the state sales tax and because I had two guests, $100.00 was discounted. The final price of $187.00 isn't bad........but I still have no wall space. Received an excellent freebie - a poster-sized Tarkai. I shudder to consider the cost of framing that. And there is still that issue of wall space. Fortunately, the one I bought is already framed, though not well.

Until next time...............
