This is another Naval Reserve drill weekend. Over 50% of our small medical/dental unit has been activated in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq. However, our mission has not decreased by 50%. We are still responsible for processing 50 plus physicals each month. Ultimately, it is a good thing. Junior Sailors are getting valuable, accelerated training and are functioning beyond their levels. Each member has expanded collateral duties. Thereis a palpable spirit of enthusiasm and an electrified energy. I can see that I will be mighty busy preparing Naval Achievement Award citations for the most deserving.
The college trimester is winding down with only one more final examination in Legal Aspects of Healthcare and two case study analyses in Human Resources Management. I can do it.....I hope.
After my final examination in HRM last Thursday and firm plans to relax at home, I was surprised by a phone call from Bryan. We decided to go to the movies and ended up seeing "Chicago". It was such a treat. The drawback was the theater.....I had no idea that my favorite movie venue had a teeny tiny screening room - only 92 seats. I felt as though we were part of the musical. We were that close to the screen even in the next to the last row. Apparently, after a movie has had an extended run, it is moved to one of the smaller spots. That is the last time I will go to that particular theater without first checking. I hope everyone will get the opportunity to savor this screen gem - it was a delight.
It was good to see Bryan - and I mean that literally. His appearance was stellar. From his outfit to his grooming, I could find no fault. I was so proud of him. Apparently, he decided that a better paying position justified the sacrifice of his long tresses. This was not a decision that he made either easily or without much forethought. We had an excellent time - laughed a lot. I'm looking forward to more outings with him.
More later...........
Posted by leah at April 12, 2003 07:32 PMPhew, what a relief to see you put another entry into your blog. Bryan did call me last week and told me he was going to give you a call. I'm so glad you enjoyed your outing together. I also know it takes a mature person to make sacrifices or changes in their life which they really don't want to do. It's really wonderful to hear that Bryan is doing so well. I just wish he would access that blog of his as well and let us know what is going on in his day to day or week to week life. Thank you Leah, for putting a new comment in yours, because I love hearing from you. Waiting for more.....
Posted by: Theresa on April 13, 2003 12:36 AMI am glad that Bryan is making some good decisions regarding his future. It is nice that you are there to see him. I believe that family is very important to Bryan.
Posted by: Rita on April 15, 2003 09:56 PMThat's great to hear that Bryan sought you out and that you two had a good time. I always remember him being quite a gentleman, even at 14 or however old he was the last time I saw him (1992, I think, when Dale and I were in Wichita Falls for Thanksgiving). He seems to be overcoming the hurdles that his life had presented to him with grace, which is a remarkable thing.
Posted by: Elizabeth on April 16, 2003 11:57 PMAll right, you are the most delinquent of all the bloggers (except possibly Mom). As the oldest sister, aren't you supposed to be setting a good example?
I miss hearing about your classes and your tipsy art auctions . . .
Posted by: Elizabeth on April 26, 2003 01:05 AMI beg your pardon!!! I have 8 entries in our blog in April and you have only 3! And what about Aunt Kathleen as a delinquent blogger? (Who would have thought we'd argue about "adequate blogging"!
Posted by: Cynthia on April 29, 2003 07:18 AMNote to Mom: Yes, but my entries are longer than yours. I do agree that Kathleen is far worse than you!
Leah--what's happened? Are you away at Navy stuff? It's been a month now. We miss you--please start blogging again.
