03 February 2003 - Still

I can't figure out how to respond to comments - I LOVE to receive the comments so, please keep them coming.

I'm still not smoking - no prob.

I've lost 3 pounds - I did finally get myself to do the treadmill thing. Failed myself over the weekend but I plan to get back to that grind tonight.

Last Navy weight check was in November - just before I started putting on Thanksgiving and Christmas and stop smoking weight.

Cynthia, I'm not reading anything now..........well, I do have an Ann Rule, true crime writer, book. I had been deeply engrossed in a Diane Galbadon novel; don't remember the title. It was an effort of over 900 pages and was fifth, I think, in a series. The story line involves time-travel when Clair, a 20th century medical doctor in NYC, goes back in time to the 1700's in Scotland and falls madly in love with Jaime. It is really an engrossing and fun series. The last book finds Jaime and Clair in pre-civil war America........I forget why they immigrated though I do know that when Jaime was imprisoned by the British and Clair thought him dead, she went back through the time-portal to our time, and she was pregnant with Jaime's daughter. Have I piqued your interest?

And Elizabeth, I ordered one of the books that you had suggested for your reading group...........the title of the book has colors in it. See what happens when one accumulates years? The memory.........ah, the memory.

I (as Mermu mentioned) just reply in the comment section of our blog - I go to our journal just like everyone else. Maybe you're trying to do it in blog editing. I'm not sure I'd like the Galbadon - for unknown reasons, I'm not much for fantasy (in this case time travel) either backward or forward.

There were two books with colors--The Crimson Petal and the White, and White Teeth. Which was it?

I actually discovered the Diana Gabaldon books a few months ago, as is my wont, I bought all five of them. I can't remember what led me to try them, as I think the time travel bit is entirely hokey, but they are great! I really got a feel for how everyday life was lived at that time, in that place--the lack of medical knowledge and expertise, the struggle to get your food every day and how the elite class can really screw things up for the working class, the lack of variety in one's diet, etc. If you haven't read the others, you should go back and start at the beginning.

Good job on the 3 pounds--keep it up!

If you don't already know, there's a setting in your blog that you can turn on to get a copy of any comments made also sent to your e-mail address (in addition to being posted on your blog, not instead of). Then you can either send a private reply via e-mail, or visit your site and post your reply as a comment, just as Mom said she does; that way everyone can see your response.

The "colors" book is the first - The Crimson Petal and the White - it arrived two days ago.

I feel validated that you enjoyed the Galbadon series. One has to suspend one's disbelief, of course, but the characters are so finely detailed; it almost makes one wish such travel were actually possible.
