Well, I was hoping to have interesting items to post by now. Alas, such is not the case.

I spent the weekend not smoking. Read a bit (quite a bit) and contemplated directing my body to the fitness room....................and that's as far as I got.

I am monitoring my weight - secondary to the not smoking. I'm ten pounds up since my last Navy weigh-in and another one looms in April with the physical fitness assessment in May. That means a combinatiion of situps, pushups (which I've NEVER been able to properly perform), and a 1.5 mile walk/run in 17.75 minutes.

I have only a year and a half to go with this nonsense - at one time, personnel over the age of 50 were excluded from the physical testing aspect though still had to conform to height/weight standards. The exclusion was rescinded five years ago but rumor has it that it may be reinstated. I hope that happens while I can benefit. In the meantime, I must get back on the treadmill. I can't understand why I'm so reluctant to follow through when I know that I feel so much better and energetic when I am exercising regularly. What is the problem?

I wish I could tell you...if you ever figure it out, please let me know. I'm suffering my own bout of lethargy right now and my clothes are fitting tighter as a result.

Sometimes it helps to have a workout partner. If you commit to meeting a friend, you're less likely to bail no matter how you feel about it. If you find someone to buddy up with, it shouldn't be someone who lives with you and you should always meet at the workout location (gym or hike/bike trail).

Another idea, especially if you are competitive, is to make a bet with someone. I did that with Daddy last year, and it worked for me (although not for him). We bet that by the time we saw each other at Xmas, each of us would have lost 8 pounds; that was a loss rate of one pound per week. I managed to lose 9. Unfortunately, I've put 7 back on. :-( I need another bet! Actually, I have a personal one now, which is to lose 8 pounds before our ski trip, upon which we embark 19 Feb. Wish me luck . . .

It must be in the air. I too have been relunctant to get into the work out mode. Jenny, Stepan and I have registered for the Cowtown 10K on Feb 22. I plan on doing more triathlons this year. But, my bicycle tires are airless and to air them I need to buy an adapter for the type of valve that is on them. I need to swim, but I do not want to join a high dollar health club again. So many obstacles...

So, how's it going now--have you started exercising yet? I went for a run yesterday and rode my bike today. Your entry--along with the other comments--was one of the things that helped get me started again.

Leah, come on now--you can do better than this! It takes less than five minutes to post a paragraph in your blog (I'm assuming you know how to type). We want to hear how your smoking cessation program is going, and how your training for your next Navy checkup is going. How are your cats? What books are you reading? Answering those alone can give you entries through all of next week!
