Last night after my run with Felicia in our Half Marathon training, I walk in the door, and John announces that he had an accident. Earlier that day, I had discovered a leak beneath Courtney's bathroom vanity that appeared to have been there for quite a while. John took our X14 bottle, added Clorox bleach to fill the bottle, and attacked that nasty, slimy wall. The nozzle was one of those adjustable types and somehow he turned it so that, when he gave it several quick full blasts, and he didn't have time to react, the thing squirted backwards instead of forwards. He got two really good doses straight into his left eye. It was very, very irritated. I called the 800 number on the Clorox bottle. It was after 7:00 p.m., but they had another 800 number to call for medical emergencies. I called, a real live person answered, spent 5 - 10 minutes on the phone with me, told me to run tepid water on his forehead so that it would run and hit his eye. He was to blink so that the water would rinse his eye and we were to do this for 20 minutes. We got a towel and I had John lay on the kitchen counter and hang his head over the sink. I AM NOT A NURSE! After a few minutes, John said he had rinsed it enough before I got home and he just wanted to get up. After a while, John said his eye was feeling better. Then a short while later, the man I had spoken to from the Medical Emergency Line called back to see how John was doing. I was surprised and quite impressed that he called back.

Posted by: Courtney on November 5, 2003 08:31 PMWhat a good story. I love hearing about good customer service. It kinda makes me want to squirt some clorox in my mind so I can receive such excellent attention ;-)
Posted by: Jfer on November 5, 2003 08:35 PMThat's weird that your entry is dated 22 October, since you seem to have written it on 5 Nov acc. to Courtney's comment. I only just noticed it today! When did this really happen?
Poor John--I wouldn't care to squirt any Clorox in my eye under any circumstances. Flushing your eyes isn't all that pleasant either. The HAZMAT (hazardous materials) training I took, which Theresa is probably also familiar with from her warehouse experiences, states that eyes should be flushed for a minimum of 15 minutes if a chemical gets into them. Your eyes feel quite sore after that.
Posted by: Elizabeth on November 8, 2003 11:12 AMKathleen, the incident at MacDonalds concerning a cup of coffee that burned a female sipper when she put the cup between her legs and drove off with it must have been uppermost in the Clorox Caller's mind when they returned your call.
Kathleen, I hope you have invested in Safety Goggles and have them positioned at the critical places in your home. Home Ownners Insurance should give you a substantial discount on next year's premium. Does John need to use one of my old eye patches when he renegotiates premium rates? I only have right-eye patches. Rotten luck, there wouldn't you say?
It is my hope that John is alright, even though I know he is only half-right all of the time and half-left the rest of the time.
Very interesting!
