Training, Training, Training

John and I are really riding our bicycles a lot! Saturday we did a short breakfast ride (16.5 miles) and Sunday we rode in the Bluebonnet Express (65 miles). We began in Hempstead and rode a lot of FM roads, saw a lot of bluebonnets and various Texas wildflowers, saw a whole bunch of road kill in various stages of havoc and decomposition (some we could identify and some we could not), and were pretty tired by the time we arrived home. I had made Elizabeth's posted Beef Stew with barley on Saturday, put it in the crock pot while we rode, and ate it when we got back. As soon as I had showered and eaten, I swiftly feel asleep on the couch @ 5:00 p.m. John woke me up to go to bed at 8:30 and then I woke up at 1:00 a.m. , rested and ready to get up for the day. Upon realizing it was only 1:00 a.m., I lay there and, gratefully, was able to go back to sleep. I woke up again at 5:00! Twelve hours! Well, I never! Only three more weeks to go. We're going to Bastrop on Saturday and practice the hills that are part of the MS150...I HATE HILLS.

I commend you both on your outing. I still remember the one and only Hotter'N'Hell I rode in about 15 yrs. ago. It took me all day just to go 25 miles! Any plans to enter more rides after the MS150?

Is it all hills you hate? or just the up ones? down hills can be scary, but exciting too. Especially if you have a bike computer and can see your speed climb to heights you could never achieve without the help of gravity!

Dale and I recommend you find some way to acquire a more positive attitude before your ride this weekend! He has ridden the route you will be taking, and he told me last week that it was actually after that ride that his back hurt for the first time. Make sure to take some Gu, Power Gel, whatever, along with you--your muscles will need it. Have a great time! It looks like a lovely day for a ride on Saturday, not too hot at all. Let me know if you guys decide to come on into Austin and see Mom, Jfer, Stepan, Rita, Brian & Joy, Dale, and Jonathan. Jfer & Co. will be coming over to our house at 4 p.m.

So, how's all your training going? Are you ready for the big weekend? Give John a big hug from me and tell him good luck--and same for you too.
